Mayavathi and Jaya Lalitha
By bringing the Dalits, Backward Classes and the so called Forward Communities in UP, Mayawati has demonstrated that social elements hitherto considered as totally irreconcilable in the world of electoral politics, are not only reconcilable but also malleable, blendable, usable and in the ultimate analysis winnable. In a brilliant political move, she has brought the socially, economically, and culturally deprived and isolated Dalits on the one hand and the politically marginalised and deliberately 'made' irrelevant Forward Communities on the other. In my view she has achieved a total revolution 'political, social and cultural' in one stroke. She has also sent a signal to all the Dalits in India to the effect that they should realize that they have been oppressed to a greater extent by the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) than by the Forward Communities (FCs) for centuries.
Many of the politicians like Mulayam Singh Yadav and Sonia Gandhi who have been totally defeated by Mayawati today would now cheaply try to bring the charge of political inconsistency against her. In this context, I am reminded of the following observations of Sir Winston Churchill, in his brilliant essay titled 'Consistency in Politics': 'A distinction should be drawn at the outset between two kinds of political inconsistency. First, a Statesman in contact with the moving current of events and anxious to keep the ship on an even keel and steer a steady course may lean all his weight now on one side and now on the other. His arguments in each case when contrasted can be shown to be not only very different in character, but contradictory in spirit and opposite in direction; yet his object will throughout have remained the same. His resolve, his wishes, his outlook may have been unchanged; his methods may be verbally irreconcilable. We cannot call this inconsistent. The only way a man can remain consistent amid changing circumstances is to change with them while preserving the same dominating purpose'. A Statesman should always try to do what he believes is best in a long view for his country, and he should not be dissuaded from so acting by having to divorce himself from a great body of doctrine to which he formerly sincerely adhered'.
Applying the above yardstick of Sir Winston Churchill, Mayawati has not been inconsistent. She has acted like a great Statesman. I consider her as a great leader from the Dalit Community. Her original leadership is a unique form of art, marked by extra-ordinary force and clairvoyant vision. Her political opponents in the recent Assembly Elections like Mulayam Singh Yadav, Salman Kurshid and Rajnath Singh functioned like 'efficient' corporate managers and in the process missed their mark. Efficient management is one thing. Inspiring leadership is another. As Warren G Bennis of the University of Southern California's Business school puts it: 'Managers have as their goal to do things right. Leaders have as their goal to do the right thing'. Mayawati did the right thing as a great leader and triumphed over her opponents with a contemptuous glee.
In the footsteps of great leaders, we hear the rolling thunder of history. Throughout the centuries from the ancient Greeks, through Shakespeare, to the present day, few subjects have proved more perennially fascinating to dramatists, historians and journalists alike than the character of great leaders. What sets them apart? What accounts for that particular, indefinable electricity that exists between the leader and the led? These fascinating and exciting questions will continue to be asked century after century in the future.
Born on February 24, 1948, Jayalalitha's destiny has chartered a most spectacular and turbulent course, leaving behind a legacy of controversy. Born on a Poornima day when Aries was rising, she has all the qualities of a fiery leader who inspires blind loyalty and revels in praise and sycophancy.
She could have serious health problems and may be asked by the courts to pay some substantial dues/damages. This will result in financial strain. Her card speaks of her stubborn and out-spoken nature. With no control over the tongue; moreover she is conceited too. Her card reveals that she is a selfish leader and seeks only personal benefit in everything. She's an individual who lives only for herself, with absolutely no thought for others.

The truth behind "Sabarimala Makara Jyothi"
Makara Jyothi appears at dark on the day of Makara Sankaranthi,14th January on the Kantamala hills facing to the Sabarimala temple, a popular Hindu pilgrim center in Kerala, India. It is widely believed by the devotees that this Jyothi appears miraculously at Ponnambalamedu and is the celestial manifestation of the god Ayyappan. Some others believe that the Jyothi is the Arati performed by the rishis and devas residing in the Kantamala hills. The Makara Jyothi marks the climax of the Makaravilakku season of Sabarimala pilgrimage lasting 41 days.
Even though it is a miracle or not the comments from various people are as follows.
- Kerala Yukthivadi Sangham
Makara Vilakku was being stage-managed by the Trvancore Devaswom Board to deceive devotees to increase its revenue.
- Sabarimala High Priest Kantaru Maheswararu
He said that 'Makara Jyothi' was a celestial star and 'Makara Vilakku' was lit at Ponnambalamedu, a tradition followed for centuries. 'Makara Vilakku' of the hillshrine was just a 'Deeparadhana,' (lighting of lamps for worship).
- In 1980, the Yukthivadi (rationalists) Sangham had enquired and exposed the fraud on devotees in the name of 'Makara Jyothi,' Dhanuvachapuram Sukumaran, Sangham vice president told reporters as follows:
The 'fraud' was being committed using the organs of the government like Doordarshan and All India Radio conducting live commentaries on the Makara Vilakku day.
Yukthivadi Sangham activists who had gone to Ponnambalamedu to know the truth behind the 'Jyothi' years back had revealed the findings through photographs.
Former Devaswom Board president G Raman Nair
He said that the 'Jyothi' was being lit on the 'Makara Samkranthi' day. Devaswom Minister and its president should apologise to the people for this.
The Truth behind Makara Jyothi by activists of Kerala Yukthivadi Sangham, they had witnessed the event in 1981
Makara Jyothi is created by burning a large quantity of camphor cubes kept in a silver platter lit by the officials of Kerala Forest Department, Kerala State Electricity Board, the authorities of Sabarimala temple and the Travancore Devaswam Board in connivance with the Police Department of Kerala State and the Government of Kerala.
The government should inform the people the truth behind the lighting of 'Makara Jyothi'.

Nepal - End of another Himalayan kingdom
- Nepal's 239-year-old Shah dynasty was the latest to bow out.
- Nepal becomes secular republic.
- Pressure has come from China to the north and India to the south, and pressure has come from below, from subjects impatient to replace feudalism with democracy, as these once-forbidden kingdoms gradually opened to the outside world.
- In 1990, street protests forced King Birendra to relinquish power and introduce democracy. The palace was openly reviled at the time, but over the ensuing decade it gradually rebuilt its reputation. While politicians squabbled and stole, the king stayed firmly above the fray.
Gujjar protest in Rajastan and Delhi
Gujjar protest begins in Delhi. Gujjar leaders in Delhi and Rajasthan are being detained overnight as a precautionary measure by police. Elaborate arrangements were in place to ensure that the roadblocks being planned by the community caused minimum inconvenience.
- The forces have been divided into mobile and static teams which will react to the demands of the situation. Information gathered by the Delhi Police indicates that pockets in south, northeast and east Delhi will be the worst affected. The aim of the protesters will be to affect supplies of essential items like vegetables and milk, all of which come into Delhi from outside. The major arteries which are expected to be affected include Mathura Road, National Highway 8, MG Road, DND flyway, Noida Link Road, National Highway 24, Loni Road, Wazirabad Road, GT Road, Chilla Checkpost and parts of Ring Road passing through east and south Delhi. Those commuting to and from Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad are expected to face problems. Since NH 8 is in the list of affected areas, those headed for the airport should leave in advance. Police have made arrangements to keep the route clear, but those trying to reach the airport have been advised to call the traffic police helpline, 23010101, to get information on the situation. City buses will ply as usual but interstate movement is expected to be hit. The "NCR Roko" call was given by the Akhil Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasabha to spread the agitation in Rajasthan; the agitators are pressing for the inclusion of the Gujjars in the ST list. As several rounds of meetings between senior officers were being held at Delhi Police headquarters till late in the night, additional companies of CRPF and RPF have been sanctioned by the home ministry.

Kundali - NATAL CHART ASTROLOGICAL CHART and BIRTH CHART
The planets at the moment of our birth have key influences on our personality & lives. The natal chart or astrological chart is derived on the basis of the identification of the position of the planets in the cosmos at that time of our birth. The planets are the basic life forces, the tools we live by as well as the basis of our very existence. The planetary forces take on different forms, depending on their zodiacal position and on the way they relate to one another. The aspects formed between the planets describe these relationships, the positions of the planets in relation to the place of birth tell us about their expression in the spheres of our life depicted by the astrological houses.By interpreting the roles of these players (the planets) and their qualities (the elements, signs and houses) and creating a synthesis, astrology is able to present a complete and comprehensive picture of the person and his potential, based on the natal horoscope.According to Indian astrology kundali (or astro kundali), to calculate your Natal (or birth) Chart you will need to know the Time and Place of your birth. Most people know their Sun sign (the position in the zodiac that the Sun was in on your birth-date. The position of all the planets is described in your Natal Chart.

Abhaya case - 'truth tests' for priest and nuns
- Two nuns and a priest here were Thursday taken to Bangalore by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to undergo truth serum tests in connection with the mysterious death of a nun, Sister Abhaya, in 1992.
- The CBI team had earlier got permission from Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate P.D. Sarangadharan to conduct the tests on Father Jose Putarika - a former Malayalam professor at the college where Abhaya studied - and two nuns who were inmates of Abhaya's convent.
- Abhaya, an inmate of Pious X hostel near here, was found dead in the well of the convent March 27, 1992. The CBI concluded in November 1996 that the death was a homicide but the murderer remained untraced.
- Thomas Kottor, the Diocesan chancellor of the Catholic Church here, was subjected to the truth serum test last month. Kottor was a professor of psychology in Abhaya's college. V.V. Augustine, a former police official, also underwent the test along with Kottor.
- The decision to conducts tests on Father Putarika and the two nuns was taken after the CBI claimed it got crucial information from the tests done on Kottor and Augustine.
- Three former CBI teams have failed to crack the mystery behind Abhaya's death. The Kerala Police had earlier dismissed the case as suicide.
- A new team was appointed in June after Joe Mon Puthenpurackal, a social activist who formed the Abhaya Action Committee in 1992, met the CBI director in May and demanded a fresh probe.
The 15-year-old case came back into the limelight in April after a newspaper reported that Abhaya's medical reports had been tampered with at the Chemical Examiners Laboratory in Thiruvananthapuram. - Two officials at the laboratory, who are alleged to have tampered with the report, are currently on bail. They had undergone a medical examination at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi last week under the supervision of CBI officials.
