DNA Fingerprinting

DNA Fingerprinting

DNA is unique from person to person but the same from cell to cell in one person can be a handy thing, especially when it comes to DNA fingerprinting.

Like the fingerprints that came into use by detectives and police labs during the 1930s, each person has a unique DNA fingerprint
  • In 1987, British baker Colin Pitchfork was the first criminal caught using DNA fingerprinting
  • DNA Fingerprinting, method of identification that compares fragments of deoxyribonucleic acid DNA It is sometimes called DNA typing.

mp6 rifle

MP Rifles

sub-machine gun is defined as a handheld or shoulder arm that fires pistol ammunition in a fully automatic mode. It is distinguished from the larger assault rifle by its limitation to pistol ammunition, which while not necessarily (or even usually) having a smaller bullet caliber does, typically, have a much smaller propellant charge. A sub-machine gun is usually much smaller than an assault rifle, as well, although some extreme variants of each type overlap in size. The development of the sub-machine gun came about in the early part of the twentieth century in response to a fairly specific set of tactical problems. Once it had been introduced, however, the sub-machine gun (SMG hereafter) was quickly adopted for a variety of roles - not, usually, those for which it had been originally designed. This writeup will offer a quick history of this type of firearm, with some of the more well-known makes as examples.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the only widely-used automatic weapons were emplaced, heavy machine guns. Some work was being done on smaller, more portable automatic weapons, but even these were mostly designed to be used in a fixed position; they were merely small enough to be lugged around between uses by a one- or two-man unit. During the First World War, some of the first uses of shoulder autoweapons occurred. The U.S. Army had the Browning Automatic Rifle - a complex, gas-operated design in full rifle form factor which could, nevertheless, fire off its fifteen or so rifle rounds in short order. As Ashley Pomeroy notes, near the end of that war the Germans introduced the Bergman MP18, a small automatic weapon which, despite also having a 'rifle-like' form factor, used 9mm pistol ammunition. As such, it may qualify as the first SMG to be mass-produced. It was introduced too late to make much of a difference in tactics, however, and was utilized mostly as a makeshift defensive tool - a 'more portable' machine-gun nest.

Conservation of energy

The conservation of energy

Law of conservation of energy

Energy neither be created nor distroyed.
The conservation of energy is a fundamental concept of physics along with the conservation of mass and the conservation of momentum.

Law of conservation of energy is an extension of this theorem that changes the context of analysis in two important ways.

catastrophic risk management

Catastrophe Risk Management

Catastrophe risk management
Preparing for potential storms ahead....

Companies have always faced threats from
catastrophic events, such as earthquakes, hurricanes
or major social unrest, but some of the most pressing
concerns now facing the global business community
are relatively recent phenomena. For example,
terrorism, although by no means a new tactic, first
received significant corporate attention following the
attacks of September 11th 2001, and H5N1, the strain
of bird flu that is currently causing concern around the
world, evolved only in the late 1990s.
The recent foiling of a major plot to cause multiple
explosions on transatlantic jets demonstrates
that the threat of terrorism remains very much in
our midst. And as the United States enters a new
hurricane season, which many meteorologists have
predicted will be as severe as last year’s, the damage
caused by extreme weather events remains a pressing
concern for businesses with operations along the
eastern and southern coasts of the US. However, in
terms of economic damage and loss of life, a global
bird flu pandemic threatens to dwarf both these
threats. According to Risk Management Solutions, a
company that specialises in the development of risk
models, there is a one-in-five probability of an H5N1
flu pandemic being more severe than the influenza
outbreak of 1918, which is estimated to have killed
between 50 and 100 million people worldwide.
When asked about how serious they consider a range
of threats to be to their business, respondents to our
survey cite power outage as being the most significant,
perhaps reflecting what they see as the relatively high
probability of such an event occurring. Next on their
list comes bird flu, which is cited by 43% as being either
significant or very significant, and then terrorism,
which is seen as a significant or very significant threat
by 35% of respondents. Perhaps not surprisingly,
given that bird flu has so far had a greater impact in
Asia than elsewhere, respondents from that region are
more likely than those from the US or Europe to see
the threat as significant. Likewise, US respondents
are more likely than those from other regions to see
extreme weather events as a significant threat, which
reflects concerns about intensifying hurricanes along
the country’s southern and eastern coasts.
A fairly high proportion of respondents have
looked at these most significant threats as part of
their risk management processes, with 69% having
considered power outage, 60% terrorism, 55%
bird flu and 54% extreme weather events. Levels of
planning vary considerably from region to region,
however, with companies in the US generally showing
slightly higher levels of preparedness than those
in Asia and significantly higher levels than those in
Europe. For example, 71% of US respondents say that
their organisation has considered the threat from
terrorism, compared with 62% of Asian respondents
and 50% of European respondents. The greater
attention afforded to catastrophe risk management in
the US is not necessarily based on a higher perception
of risk—across Asia, Europe and the US, terrorism
is seen as a significant threat by broadly similar
percentages of respondents.

maulana abul kalam azad

National Education Day

The birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on November 11 is celebrate as the ‘National Education Day’

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad : [ 1888-1958]

Here is a biography and history of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad ranks among the top builders of modern India and among the top freedom fighters, who dedicated his entire life to liberate India.

Maulana Abul Kalam Muhiyuddin Ahmed (11 November 1888 – 22 February 1958) was a Muslim scholar and a senior political leader of the Indian independence movement. He was one of the most prominent Muslim leaders to support Hindu-Muslim unity, opposing the partition of India on communal lines. Following India's independence, he became the first Minister of Education in the Indian government. He is commonly remembered as Maulana Azad; he had adopted Azad (Free) as his pen name.
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was born in the year 1888 in Mecca. His forefather's came from Herat (a city in Afghanistan) in Babar's days. Azad was a descendent of a lineage of learned Muslim scholars, or maulanas. His father's name was Maulana Khairuddin and his mother was the daughter of Sheikh Mohammad Zaher Watri. In 1890, Azad's father moved to Calcutta. Educated according to the traditional curriculum, Azad learned Arabic and Persian first and then philosophy, geometry, mathematics and algebra. He was taught at home, first by his father, later by appointed teachers who were eminent in their respective fields. Seeing that English was fast becoming the international language, Azad taught himself to read, write and speak the language. He adopted the pen name "Azad" to signify his freedom from traditional Muslim ways.

Maulana Azad served as the Minister of Education in Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's cabinet from 1947 to 1958. He died in August 1958. Azad was honored with the Bharat Ratna posthumously in 1992.

e waste

Electronic waste, "e-waste" or "Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment" (" WEEE")

E-waste includes computers, entertainment electronics, mobile phones and other items that have been discarded by their original users.

E-waste or Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is the term used to describe old, end-of-life or discarded appliances using electricity.
It includes computers, consumer electronics, fridges etc which have been disposed of by their original users. While there is no generally accepted definition of e-waste, often it is associated with relatively expensive and essentially durable products used for data processing, telecommunications or entertainment in private households and businesses. But the ever increasing digitalisation of products blurs such a distinction from former electrical appliance such as a kettle, a boiler or an oven; all do or will soon contain electronic circuits and ultimately become e-waste.

On this website - the e-Waste Guide - "e-waste" is used as a generic term embracing all types of waste containing electrically powered components. E-waste contains both valuable as well as harmful materials which require special handling and recycling methods. This guide covers all categories of e-waste but emphasizes categories which contain problematic, scarce and valuable or otherwise interesting materials. examples: Computers, LCD / CRT Screens, Cooling Appliances, Mobile Phones, etc. containing precious metals, flame retarded plastics CFC foams and many other substances.

Mogappair Eri ...
Initially, TNHB was working overtime in this suburb, setting up MIG and LIG housing colonies. Then with the Mogap
pair Eri scheme, which catered to the high-income groups as well, the neighbourhood's image soared. Government officials from the top drawer set up hearth here. Though the latest apartment complexes that have come up in the Mogappair Eri Scheme stand out from the rest of the buildings in terms of structure and design, they have only closed windows and locked doors to show. In recent years, private enterprise has been getting in on the act and putting many eye-catching apartment complexes on the Mogappair landscape.

Brain-computer interface

Brain-computer interface
An interface between brain and computer
braingate, bill jakob
For several years, research groups in Europe and the USA have been working on systems which allow for a direct dialog between man and machine. To this end, a "Brain Computer Interface" (BCI) has been developed. Cerebral electric activity is recorded via the electroencephalogram (EEG): electrodes, attached to the scalp, measure the electric signals of the brain. These signals are amplified and transmitted to the computer, which transforms them into device control commands. The crucial requirement for the successful functioning of the BCI is that the electric activity on the scalp surface already reflects motor intentions, i.e., the neural correlate of preparation for hand or foot movements. The BCI detects the motor-related EEG changes and uses this information, for example, to perform a choice between two alternatives: the detection of the preparation to move the left hand leads to the choice of the first, whereas the right hand intention would lead to the second alternative. By this means it is possible to operate devices which are connected to the computer; such a communication can even be realised via the internet.

Rules of cricket

Rules of cricket

cricket rules

how to play cricket, rules of cricket

Basic rules of Twenty 20 cricket.
The basic rules and laws of Twenty 20 cricket are fundamentally the same as a one inning one day international cricket match. As the name 'Twenty 20' implies, the rules of Twenty 20 cricket matches state that each team in a Twenty 20 cricket match will have a maximum of 20 overs, unlike 50 overs as in an one day international cricket match.
Other rules and laws of Twenty 20 cricket are designed to make Twenty 20 cricket more exciting and add to the 'fun' factor of a typical Twenty 20 cricket match.
Rules of Twenty 20 cricket- Rules to make Twenty 20 cricket more fun
Here are some rules of Twenty 20 cricket to add to the carnival cricket atmosphere
Special Twenty 20 cricket rule 1: The Free Hit
An interesting rule of Twenty 20 cricket is the Free Hit. This Twenty 20 cricket rule states that following a no-ball as a result of overstepping, the next ball shall be a Free Hit. For this ball, the batsman is not given given out by any way in the cricket rules apart from being run-out.
Special Twenty 20 cricket rule 2: Power to the umpires
A controversial rule of Twenty 20 cricket states that umpires may award five runs to one of the teams playing the Twenty 20 cricket match, in case the umpires feel that the other team is needlessly wasting time. This Twenty 20 cricket rule is obviously controversial because of the recent ruckus over the Inzamam-Hair incident. One just hopes that this rule of Twenty 20 cricket does not lead to more cricketing controversies
Special Twenty 20 cricket rule 3: Twenty overs within 75 minutes
This Twenty 20 cricket rule imposes strict penalties on bowling teams not completing their alloted 20 overs within 75 minutes. As per this rule of Twenty 20 cricket, a bonus of 6 runs is awarded to the batting team in case the bowling team does not begin their 20th over before 75 minutes. This rule of Twenty 20 cricket is intended to be strictly imposed since completing the Twenty 20 cricket match within 3 hours is one of the primary benefits and selling points of Twenty 20 cricket.
Special Twenty 20 cricket rule 4: Bowling restrictions of Twenty 20 cricket
This rule of Twenty 20 cricket once again emphasizes that the laws and rules of the cricket game are becoming more batsman-friendly at the expense of the hapless bowlers.
This bowler specific Twenty 20 rule states that bowlers can bowl a maximum of 4 overs- limiting the individual impact of bowlers on the outcome of a Twenty 20 cricket match.
Special Twenty 20 cricket rule 5: Fielding restrictions of Twenty 20 cricket
Twenty 20 cricket rules state that only 5 fielders can field on the leg side at any point of time. This rule of Twenty 20 cricket is largely inconsequential these days as the bowlers typically tend to set a more balanced field on either side of the wicket.
This particular Twenty 20 rule impacts perhaps only off spinners who sometimes prefer to have 6 fielders on the leg side as the direction of the spin implies that batsmen will prefer to play on the leg side.
The other fielding restriction rule of Twenty 20 cricket states that a maximum of two fielders can be outside the ring in the first 6 overs and a maximum of five fielders can be outside the ring for the remaining 14 overs. This rule of Twenty 20 cricket is quite simple and similar to the fielding restriction rule of one day international cricket.
Special Twenty 20 cricket rule 6: Bowl-outs
This special Twenty 20 cricket rule applies to Twenty 20 matches that end in a tie. This Twenty 20 cricket rule introduces the novelty of a bowl-out to decide on the outcome of the Twenty 20 cricket match.
According to this Twenty 20 cricket rule, five bowlers from either team are allowed to bowl two balls at the wicket with no batsman at the crease. The Twenty 20 rule states that the maximum times the wicket is castled by either team decides the outcome of the Twenty 20 match. This Twenty 20 cricket rule, borrowed from other sports such as soccer, adds to the excitement of the spectators.
However, a novel Twenty 20 rule similar to the 'Golden goal' or the 'extra time' concept of soccer or basketball would probably make the end-game of a Twenty 20 cricket match more interesting.
