A memorial service for Eve Carson will be held at UNC-Chapel Hill on March 5, the first anniversary of the killing of the popular student.

The Chapel Hill town manager was among the thousands gathered in Polk Place to mourn the student who was taken from her home and killed one year ago today. As he stood, as many shed tears and as the chancellor spoke, Roger Stancil realized that students were different, more vulnerable. They were 18- to 25-year-olds away from home. They were people he had a special responsibility to create a safe environment for them.
